What is Car Remapping?
Car remapping means reprogramming your vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU) to enhance its performance. The ECU controls important aspects like fuel injection, ignition timing, and turbo boost. Car manufacturers tune their vehicles to meet global standards, including emissions and environmental conditions, sometimes leaving room for future power upgrades.
With TWPerformance remapping using VIEZU, we can unlock your engine's full potential while keeping it reliable and safe. Manufacturers design vehicles to work well in various climates and fuel qualities. For instance, cars in high altitudes often have reduced performance due to thinner air.
Remapping removes these limitations, allowing your engine to perform better in local conditions. Whether you’re driving down Dorset country lanes, or hitting the M25, a remap provides smoother power and better efficiency.
If you've been looking for ways to optimise your cars performance, a TWP remap might be the solution you need.
How Does Car Remapping Work?
Modern remapping is a straightforward process:
At TWPerformance the process looks like this,
Initial Diagnostics and Health Check – A detailed check to evaluate the vehicle's health and performance makes sure the vehicle is ready for tuning. If your vehicle has an engine management light showing, please contact us first before booking.
Reading the Existing Map – Terry will get the software from the ECU using the OBD port or by reaching the ECU directly. For older vehicles, we might need to physically access the ECU by removing it.
Custom Map Creation by Viezu– The extracted data is then adjusted to fit the vehicle and driver’s individual needs, whether that’s for more power, better fuel efficiency, or a mixture of both, creating a customised remap file.
Uploading the new tuning file – The new map or tuning file is then uploaded, and the vehicle undergoes further testing. Within 48 hours, you will then receive a certificate to show your vehicle has been remapped, via email.
What Are the Benefits of Remapping?
Improved Power and Torque
Remapping can greatly increase a vehicle's horsepower and torque. Turbocharged engines can gain over 20% more power, leading to better acceleration and response.
Supercharged engines also see big improvements in performance at all RPMs.
Naturally aspirated engines benefit too, with enhanced response and smoother power delivery.
Enhanced Fuel Efficiency
Our custom remaps often lead to better fuel economy. By optimizing ECU settings, we enhance torque efficiency, especially at lower RPMs.
If you frequently drive during rush hour, a remap can cut fuel usage on stop-and-go trips.
Diesel engines typically see significant fuel efficiency improvements after remapping.
Non-Invasive and Reversible
Remapping doesn't need any physical changes to the car and can be easily undone to return to factory settings. This is helpful for drivers who might want to sell their vehicles later and need to restore them to their original specifications.
